National Garden Days Contest

Hanging Basket Day

Please note, we are changing things up a little bit this year and will not be holding a Hanging Basket Day this spring but we will be creating a special guide with our planting tips and ingredients to achieving great baskets so that you can plant them at home! Guides will be available by April 20, and they will include steps on how to create moss baskets too!

For folks who are wishing to order corporate containers, or special hanging baskets for weddings etc., please contact Jo-Ann in our office for information and pricing on Custom Orders. Thank you!

Gardeners on the Go!

Saturdays in April, 10-10:20am

April is a busy time in the garden so we've dedicated four 'short and sweet' sessions to tackle some of the most timley topics for the month. These 20 minute talks will take place in the corresponding departmants. Please call 604.792.6612 to register and be sure to bring your questions! All sessions are free of charge and start at 10am.
The Dirt on Soil, Sat. April 7: Meet in our covered soil area to learn the importance of soil composition, the difference between certain soil blends, what well-drained soil is, why it's so important and how you can create it.
Made for the Shade, Sat. April 14: Struggling for sunshine? Join us under the nursery pergola to take a look at the trees and shrubs that are low-maintenance and sure-fire winners for shady spots. Plant once, enjoy for years!
Privacy Please, Sat. April 21: Love your neighbour but don't need to see quite so much of them? Head to the vine area where we will introduce the best sun and shade plants to create screens for small spaces (and the best containers for them too).
Tomatoes, Sat. April 28: Pop on over to the tomato tables so that we can introduce you to some of the newest varieties, the best for container gardens, what they neeed to thrive and how to prevent, and deal with, common tomato challenges throughout the season.

Intro to Veggie Gardening

Sat. March 24, 10am or April 7, 10:30am

Please note, as of March 23, the session on March 24 is now full, but we've added a second 'repeat' session on Saturday April 7!
Brian will be spending an hour discussing tried, true and new varieties of vegetables to try, tips for growing edibles in containers and address some of the common challenges home gardeners may face during the growing season. Please call 604.792.6612 to register as space will be limited!

Fruit & Berry Basics

Sat. March 17, 10am

In jam, jelly, pie, crumble or fresh off the branch, sweet fruit is a joy in any form! Brian will be discussing the best small fruits and fruit trees to grow in our area, the growing requirements for each and tips for great productivity in gardens large or small. Create a Cutting Garden (NEW!)

Sun. March 11, 3pm

You've seen the stunning dahlia, peony, 'botanically rich' bouquets on Instagram, now join us to learn how you can start making them from your own backyard! Pauline will be outlining the easiest-to-grow cut flower varieties, how to get them started, timing for planting/harvesting and she'll even offer some bouquet-making basics too. Potatoes (NEW!)

Sat. March 3, 10am

Potatoes are a backyard garden staple and so easy to grow! Brian will be spending some time discussing the basics (what is 'chitting' anyway?!), introducing unique varieties and offering some troubleshooting tips too, so whether you're new to 'taters or just have a few questions on how to grow them more successfully, this is the session for you! Troubleshooting Tropicals (NEW!)

DATE CHANGE TO: Sun. Feb. 25, 4pm

Indoor houseplants make our homes cozier, more colourful and many clean the air too. For the most part they are exceptionally easy to grow, but they can have their issues too (don't we all). Pauline will be taking some time to show you how to identify, prevent and cure some common tropical challenges, from how to know when to water to how to spot a mealybug. This is an especially good session for those who care for plants in office environments too. Please call 604.792.6612 to register as space is limited!

Painter's Pallet Night (NEW!), Tickets $50

Thursday Feb. 22, 5:30-7:30pm: Registration Closed

Please note, as of noon Feb. 21, registration is now closed. Thank you!The team from Naked Pallet will be here the evening of February 22 to host a Paint Night! Enjoy light refreshments as you create your own beautiful wooden sign, surrounded by the lush foliage of our Tropical House. Space is limited to the first 18 guests registered and will surely fill quickly, so gather your friends and make it at date! Tickets are $50 plus tax and must be purchased in advance. The Chilliwack Spinners & Weavers Guild

Sat. Feb. 17, 10am-4pm

The talented ladies of our local Spinners & Weavers Guild will be joining us for the day to show off their skills! Come and see them in action, ask your questions (some have been doing this for decades!) and shop from a selection of pieces that they will be bringing in for sale too.

Bert 'The Moleman' Returns

Sat. Feb. 17, 10am-12pm

Bert has years of experience taking on the moles and winning, and he's here to share his tips, techniques and methods with you. He is 'The Moleman' after all! Please call 604.792.6612 to register for this free session.

Bloomer Bus to Seattle's
Northwest Flower & Garden Festival

Thursday February 8, Tickets are $90 (tax included)
SORRY - The Bus is Now Full!

We are organizing another bus trip south of the line to visit the amazing Northwest Flower and Garden Festival in Seattle! The bus will leave Country Garden at 7:30am and should be back in Chilliwack by about 9:30pm. Passengers must have a current passport, travel medical insurance and be prepared to disembark and reload the bus at the border. Onboard entertainment will be provided by Brian Minter, who will be hosting the tour! Please note, there is one pick up/drop off location in Abbotsford.

Pruning Seminars

Pruning 101, January 20 at 10am Doug and Dave Neufeld, the dynamic pruning duo, return to show you how to prune deciduous fruit, flowering and shade trees like a pro.

Pruning 102, January 27 at 10am During this session Brian Minter will be addressing how to prune a wide array of popular garden plants, from herbs to hedging, raspberries to roses, popular perennials, vines and more.

Pruning, the Abridged Version, February 3 at 10am This session is a bit of a catch-all, covering the highlights of both Pruning 101 and 102. Perfect for those with a small garden!

All sessions are free of charge but registrations is required as space fills quickly. Please call 604.792.6612 to register - thank you!

Christmas Tree Chipping

Jan. 3-10 During Store Hours

Bring in your GREEN or FLOCKED, UNDECORATED tree Jan. 3 to 10 during store hours along with non-perishable food items or cash donation to the Salvation Army and we'll send it off to a better place... and by better place, we mean the compost! Thanks to RIM Tree Services who will be coming in to do the chipping after the collection period has closed.

Please note, trees must be completely bare, no plastic bags, stands, tinsel, ornaments etc. Thank you! The drop-off area is in the south east corner of the parking lot. Donations can be made at the main cashier area.
We are open 9am-5pm Mon-Sat, 10am-5pm Sun. during this period.
